WELCOME TO KILBURN JUNIOR SCHOOL

At Kilburn Junior School, we take great pride in providing a nurturing and inspiring environment where every child can thrive.

We celebrate individuality and work together to ensure that every pupil, and every adult in our community, feels valued, confident, and supported to reach their full potential.

Our goal is to prepare children not only for the next stage of their learning journey but also to become responsible, confident citizens of the future.

We are an open and welcoming school, committed to building strong partnerships with parents and our local community, because together, we make a difference.

Indoor Rowing Competition

A mixed team of boys and girls from our year 6 classes attended the AVSSP Indoor Rowing Competition last night at Ripley Leisure Centre. The children performed brilliantly as a team, competing in individual, pairs and whole team events. Each event scored points for the team and so every metre rowed was vital! After some exhautsing races, the children jointly placed second overall in the competition! Well done, rowing team, you smashed it!

This Week in TB - WC 19/01/26

Note: pictures from Equality and Endurance to follow on Friday.

It's been a challengeing start to the week with the weather, but the children have proved themselves to be well prepared and have shown buckets of resilience...

Lower School have started their sessions by considering a series of questions designed to make them inquisitive and observant and to think and contemplate independently.  After answering questions, the children teamed up and discussed their answers.

Follwing this, we went onto the fleld and the children enjoyed a bow and arrow shooting demonstration - they were surprised at how powerful a bow and arrow were!  This demo was to support work they are doing in TB linked to Ghana - some people in Ghana still live a hunter gatherer way of life, using bows and arrows to hunt animals such as boars and kob antelope - this has inspired us to make our own arrows.

After HC and a story, the children did their penultimate rotation round our four challenges: arrow making; mask making; Ludus painting; hot chocolate making.

Some in Upper School have started their sessions by completing challenges from last week, whereas others have explored techniques used with water-colour paint; we looked at WAGOLL examples of water-colour art, spotteded where different techniques had been employed, before having a go at a school landscape.  After completing our pieces, we explored the work of other children and voted on our favourites - Mrs H took best in class adult (she was very humble in her victory...not), and Maddie B best in class child.

After HCs and story, we rotated round picture frame making, mapping the journey of HMS Beagle, crafting food webs and sculpture creation.

KJS go all American

KJS go all American

Ten inquisitive children took to the Belper-High astro-field last night to have a go at American Football - yeeeeeehhhhhhaaaaaaa!

It was the first time AVSSP had led an AF session, and the kids were over the moon with how well it went.

After a series of challenging drills, the children worked in small groups to practice starting a game, before then pulling everything together and taking on other teams in full games.

After the game, we listened to country classics, practiced line dancing and ate corn dogs and twinkies.  Yeeeeeehaaaaaaaaa!

Thanks to AVSSP for organising and to parents for coming along to support their kiddywinks.

Courage enjoy reward for filling marble jar

Courage enjoy reward for filling marble jar

Well...Courage have only gone and filled their marble jar, meaning they have earned a class reward!

After a deep discussion, the children all agreed they would like to get out the aparatus in the hall!

Fun was had, of course, but we are a school, so we took the opportunity to teach some gymanstic skills and undertake some challenges to develop strength and confidence.
