Family Support and Early Help

Family Liaison Worker

As a school, we recognise the challenges family life presents and understand that life has its ups and downs from time to time.

To this end, we have our own Family Liaison Worker, Jayne Doherty, whose role is to offer support and advice to children and their families around a range of issues which may include:

  • Advice around a range of different parenting support methods.
  • Practical and emotional support for families, particularly at times of crisis.
  • Help and support around health, housing, finance, domestic violence, substance misuse etc.
  • Supporting vulnerable groups of pupils.
  • Supporting children and families around attendance and timekeeping issues.
  • Helping build positive working relationships between parents and their children.

Jayne is in school all day on Wednesday each week, so if you would like to meet with her to discuss any issues you may have, please contact the school or Jayne directly by emailing her at  jayne.doherty@embarkfed.derbyshire.sch.uk

Help for you and your family this Winter

Food support vouchers worth £80 each will be distributed to families across Derbyshire this week (from Tuesday 8 February 2022) as part of the county council’s Household Support Fund programme.

The vouchers are available to offer extra support to families to buy winter food essentials.

The food support vouchers are available to every child who received benefit related free school meals or the Early Years Pupil Premium during last year’s autumn term.

Parents were given a choice to receive their vouchers by email or text with a link to download the voucher from the Hugggs Ltd website, the firm contracted to provide the service by the county council.

Any parents or carers who do not receive a voucher by Tuesday 15 February and think they are eligible, can complete the online request form.

The free food support vouchers are part of the county council’s £5.4m Household Support Fund to provide financial help to families to meet essential living costs.

Until the end of March, the fund is also providing grants worth up to £64 per household, plus an extra £20 for each partner/spouse and any dependent children.

Households can find out more about the grants and how to apply at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/householdsupportfund.

Salcare is a local charity based in Heanor – a “one-stop shop” providing support for the people of Amber Valley and Erewash.

The organisation helps anyone in need, whether they have been referred to them by organisations such as social services, the police, domestic abuse services or job centres.  It doesn’t matter if you are outside the Amber Valley/Erewash boundaries either.

Salcare Escape is a branch of Salcare that provides support and advice to those that have or are experiencing Domestic Abuse. This is through a mixture of specialised, one to one support and carefully created groups.

Salcare also has a food bank providing emergency food for single people and families – either walk in or be referred by other agencies (social care, refuges, drug and alcohol services, etc)
