Lower School have started sessions this week with a crossing-the-swamp game - in teams, children had to collaborate, communicate and problem solve to get themselves, their tiles and 40 liters of water across a shark infested swamp! Some limbs were lost, however we all survived.
Following our biccy and HC, children undertook a suite of new challenges: a shelter for the homeless man in The Invisible; tyre-garden creation like the old lady in The Invisible; arrow making to fire off our rocket launcher (linked to the inspirational female Sacagawea); fossil printing in clay; wall art inspired by pictures in The Invisible.
Upper School started their sessions with a game requiring problem solving, collaboration, communication, cunning and speed...cones of differing scores had to be collected using carpet tiles and wooden planks to stand on...tiles and wood could be maneuvered to create paths to the cones and back to base.
It was incredible seeing the children supporting each other to achieve a common aim, and how they came up with clever ways to make collecting distant cones easier.
Sessions were finished by completing our bird feeders and owl art, making sculptures of HMS Beagle, learning about the evolution of birds feet before making bird feet clay tiles and making shelters.
